As a female entrepreneur who just celebrated the first anniversary of my business, Memory Catcher Video Biographies, I have a few tips for women looking to take the plunge into the world of business:
- Image is key – Take the time to establish a professional image, including a logo, quality business cards and a website prior to beginning your promotion. It surprises me how many entrepreneurs you encounter who don’t have business cards, or apologise for the image they present as they are handing one to you. You have one chance to make a first impression, and establishing your image, and consistently representing that image, is key. If you don’t take your business seriously, you can’t expect anyone else to.
- Network – No, I’m not talking about social media networks, but the real kind, face-to- face. In order to establish your business, you must make contacts, and you can’t do that sitting at home or in your office. Get out there and get known!
- Ask for Help – We’re not all experts in everything, so don’t pretend to be. If you’re not sure how to do something, ask for help. Find mentors, ask their advice, and you may just be surprised by their generosity of ideas and time.
