Edible Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
Mother’s Day is all about surprising mom with a special treat she normally wouldn’t buy herself. You can offer her a lovely sampling of edible gourmet gifts this year and really make her day.
What are some of the best gifts in the gourmet category for mom? Depends on her likes and tastes. Is she a coffee lover? Does she have a sweet tooth? Is she more into savory spreads and dips? Does she bake her own breads and cakes? There’s a gourmet gift for every type of mom.
Coffee lovers will love a basket filled with gourmet coffee and accessories to go with it. Start off with a couple of bags of the best coffee you can find. Starbucks has coffee beans in bags at the grocery store now. You can browse the grocery store coffee aisle and find brands from Dunkin Donuts to Caribou to Green Mountain. Choose an assortment of different flavors and types so she can have a different cup every day. Fill the basket up with some chocolate covered espresso beans, a silver or pewter coffee scoop, a coffee grinder, and two nice mugs. Your gourmet coffee basket will be a sure hit.
For the lady with a sweet tooth, compile a collection of the best chocolates and candies around. For chocolates, go for Godiva, Lindt, or even Hershey’s dark chocolate. It doesn’t have to be expensive to be good chocolate. You can put in a mixture of treats like Harry and David’s moose munch which is chocolate and popcorn and peanuts. Add in some chocolate-covered cherries, sweet treats like chocolate-dipped apricots, gourmet raspberry-filled treats and decadent chocolate truffles. Not sure what to pick? Go into a candy store and ask for the clerk’s help in selecting. They can put together a basket for you. Or you can order a premade basket online. There are wonderful companies who offer an array of sweet baskets that mom will love to unwrap.
Savory & Salty Food Lover
How about for the mom who loves savory treats? Put together or purchase an assortment basket that includes cheese spreads, tapenade, dip mixes, dipping pretzels, gourmet potato chips, and more. Fill the basket with little knives that can be used to spread dips and cheese. Add in some cloth napkins and a nice bottle of wine and you’ve got a great mother’s day gift on hand.
And for the baker, there are a dozen choices at least. Fill a basket with bread mixes, gourmet cupcake and cake mixes from Williams Sonoma, cookie recipes, cookie cutters, meringue powder for making icings, spatulas, pretty measuring spoons, and other gourmet gadgets that could be used for baking. Or consider baking some of her favorite cookies and then put them in a tin that is tied with a bow for a beautiful presentation. Not a baker?
Buy a Mother’s Day cookie basket online (like the one shown in the photo) and they’ll ship it right to her door.
Mom will love any gourmet gift if you choose it based on her likes. If she never eats sweets, steer clear of the sweets basket, etc. But you’ll know what mom likes and you can compile a delicious array of treats that she’ll be overjoyed to open. Try to find items that she would never buy for herself on an average day and surprise her. Is there one type of chocolate she favors above all others? Go all out. Gift her with treats from that expensive store that she’s always window shopping in. Mom deserves a little splurge for her big day.
