5 Healthy Weight Loss Supplements
By Sam Mauzy
Did you know that approximately 60% of Americans are overweight or obese? This alarming statistic is an indication of the poor eating habits and lack of exercise in our population. We often consume portions of food that are too large, or too high in fats and sugars. Along with not exercising enough, these bad habits contribute greatly to the gain of excess bodyweight. Some people have a harder time losing weight than others because of their genetics. These individuals have slower metabolism rates that take more time to break down and process food. In turn, their bodies will retain that extra energy for longer periods in the form of bodyfat. The fact remains–many people continue to struggle with their weight, searching for healthy ways to lose it. Luckily, there are many natural weight loss supplements commonly available in most stores.
1) Green Tea
Green tea is one of the most popular natural supplements in use today. It is known for containing strong antioxidants that not only increase the body’s metabolism, but combats cancer by neutralizing free radicals. This all-in-one health drink has several other benefits as well, including suppressing the appetite, maintaining oral health, and serving as an energy booster. Green tea is great in every way: it’s tasty, low in calories, and abundant in nutrition. For an extremely inexpensive fat burning solution, drink green tea daily to get maximum results.
2) Fish Oil
The reason fish oil is so great for the body is because it contains high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s, as they are called, alter the way the body uses fats. Instead of just storing excess energy as body fat, omega-3s allow some of that body fat to be used immediately for energy. Over time, this can deplete fat stores and aid in weight loss. Some research has found that weight loss occurs even when the user does not exercise. Another great benefit of fish oil is that it decreases the levels of LDL, or “bad” cholesterol in the body. Using fish oil daily will help with loss of weight, increase heart health, and reduce the risk for heart attack and stroke. Fish oil can be taken in tablet form, or it can be obtained by eating dark-flesh fish.
3) Flax Oil Like fish oil,
flax oil has a rich omega-3 fatty acid content. This natural weight loss supplement has most of the same properties of fish oil, minus the “fishy” odor, making it more appealing and easier to take. Flax oil is high in nutritional content, including vitamins and minerals such as: Vitamin B, potassium, fiber, and protein. It is also known to aid with muscle recovery after a hard workout, and can increase overall alertness and reaction time.
4) Apple Cider Vinegar
When people think of healthy weight loss foods, apple cider vinegar usually isn’t one of them. This humble product of fermentation has some major health benefits. First, apple cider vinegar decreases hunger, leading to less eating throughout the day. This is a powerful effect since overeating is one of the biggest problems in our society. Next, apple cider vinegar decreases the amount of water that is normally retained in the body, giving the appearance of a slimmer, and more toned physique. High water retention causes the body to look softer, rounder, and larger. Finally, apple cider vinegar also increases the body’s metabolism rate.
5) Coconut Oil
This under-used ingredient will improve metabolism functions to promote weight loss. Coconut oil is often used as an alternative to traditional cooking oils, and it also adds a unique flavor to the food. The oil can be laid on top of breads and pastries, or dripped onto popcorn or salad. Coconut oil can also be mixed into fruit smoothies and protein shakes for extra nutrition.
